Fight the Flesh!

Ever have an idea or a poignant phrase that pops into your head? Seemingly comes from thin air? Through the years, this phenomenon has never ceased to amaze me, especially the word choices that are not necessarily those which I’d typically use, or when I’ve written something that years later, I read back and think, “wow–that’s good!”…only to find my signature at the bottom!

That tells me that we’re not alone. Although I may not always remember that fact in the moment, it is true.

One of these phrases came to me on a particular cold morning as I lay comfortably in bed, balled up in a heap of cushy warm blankets, while my cat intently mewed, licked my forehead, and purred all about me. Oh, how I was tempted to turn over one more time and hit “snooze”. The phrase: “Fight the flesh.”

That really did help me to ‘catapult’ (haha) myself from beneath the warm cozy bed and move toward the start of my morning routine, which was equal to good choice and lift #1.

My husband was waking up just then, too, and–though we were both in a bit of a rush to get to the office this morning asked if we could read (since around 2019 we began reading scripture together ❀️) soon after I cared for the cat’s needs. Good choice and lift #2.

I’ve since also been reminded of the psalm “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.” Definitely all he’s get my butt moving when I really would rather not. But what Ive found is that insodoing, I ultimately feel better than had I resorted to my own thinking and (earthly) desires.

Things like that that the Spirit has laid on my heart also helps me to push through those potentially anxiety-producing moments.

If I were a betting woman, I’d bet that I’m not the only one this happens to πŸ˜‰ I’d love to hear about your experiences with divine inspiration!
