I woke up the other morning with these words on my heart: “Fight the urge to dwell on that fear.”
Intrigued, I pondered that thought throughout the day, especially the word fight. I realized that merely passively avoiding worries, stressors and (insert your particular fear here) isn’t enough. Taking an active stance in our lives really is what we’re called to do (see Ephesians 6:10-18: Putting On The Armor Of God).
I don’t use my ADHD as a crutch, blaming my mishaps on my processing challenges, but my goal is allowing the truth of what I have to help form my perspective on my given situation. For instance, I allow myself a little grace on what I may have misjudged, time-wise, not allowing it to either define my reason, or consume me, in terms of deeming me a failure. That’s an easy trap to fall into, so it’s good to resist that temptation, or if you will, distraction.
Instead, I figure if I can allow it to help form my ability to keep learning and growing as a person, I can encourage new “mind mapping” (I will link a really good concept i learned on this a few years back I’d love to share with you). It really is possible for “an old dog to learn new tricks”!!
And *that* my dear friends, is what I mean by “Intentionality.” And I didn’t just come up with this writing on my own. It’s as a result of my intentional focus on our Lord, which then allows His Spirit to guide me and help me not to get distracted by everything else.
